Beginning with Research and ProposalsThis project began as a college studio at Srishti, guided by Lakshmi Po, where we were tasked with designing a wayfinding system for our campus. We started by analyzing Peter Lynch's principles of wayfinding and applied them to our environment using college floor plans. Our process included test runs to study eye-line visibility, type size, and colour contrast, all crucial in ensuring legibility and ease of navigation. We created proposed signage systems tailored to different blocks within the campus, focusing on clarity and accessibility. This initial studio served as a foundation for what would become a much larger and more detailed project.Expanding into a Comprehensive SystemOver the next six months, under the guidance of professors Shraddha and Ninad, the project evolved into a thorough design exploration. We conducted material tests, laser-printed prototypes, and developed a unified iconography and graphic language. Each building served a different function, so we also crafted a naming system based on use and context. Our team designed essential collaterals like ground floor posters, door signage, and lift lobby visuals—all positioned at key decision points across campus. Though the final implementation went to a studio, we gained immense experience in systems thinking, prototyping, and collaborative design.
